Finding Chore Time

As adults today, we have little time to ourselves, let alone time to take care of everyday chores and maintenance around the house. From vacuuming and laundry to bigger projects like sorting through old clothing, there are things you simply must take care of. The key is figuring out the best time to do these tasks and sticking to your schedule.

You may want to consider talking one job each day. For example, the night before garbage pick up is the ideal time to empty the refrigerator and clean out Tupperware. You can also empty all the trashes in the house. Another day is for laundry, another for cleaning the floors. By picking one chore for each day, it isn’t so difficult to get that chore done.

Still, our busy schedules make it difficult to stick to a schedule. You may want to consider involving all the family in the chore plan. Even small children can help with basic tasks. Have toddlers help sort socks, older children can empty the dishwasher. All kids should be responsible for their own bedrooms.

Avoid falling into the habit of making all chores your problem. It is impossible to do it all yourself, so you must be willing to relinquish the control to other family members. This means not going behind them and redoing their work. Use praise instead to help make sure they will continue to help out.

Chores will always be there, but by accepting help and creating a schedule, they will not be as difficult.
